Work and Internships

Barton College, Wilson, NC, Adjunct Professor -Ceramics, 2020 – present
Under the role of Adjunct Professor, there are a multitude of tasks to accomplish each semester and beyond. This includes overseeing all aspects of the undergraduate Ceramics courses, ranging from establishing an inventory, to creating and conveying lessons and projects, evaluating student work based on a variety of standards, as well as being responsible for general upkeep of the studio space. During my time in this position, the retention rate from introduction to intermediate has risen by roughly 200%, alongside an increase in the number of students minoring in ceramics.

Kohler Foundation Curation Assistant, Wilson, NC, 2019
A position with the Kohler Foundation in collaboration with photographer Burk Uzzle. This included handling, cataloging, and organizing Uzzle’s photography to assist in preservation as the collection will in turn be gifted to the Wilson Special Collections Library at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences, Rocky Mount, NC, Teaching Artist, 2018
This position is specific to each season. The process begins with writing proposals for individual classes and workshops including time range, number of sessions, and outlining the intended outcomes. Once classes begin, it is the role of the instructor to demonstrate and convey information for all age groups. For ceramics specifically, this requires knowledge on clay building skills, firing techniques, and glazing requirements.

Barton Case Art Gallery, Wilson, NC, Internship, 2015-2018
This internship focuses on understanding the work done in an art gallery, including hanging artwork, organizing spaces for artwork, and maintaining the pedestals and walls of the space. As an intern, there was also experience in interacting with FOVA members, as well as artists, and the organization of excursions. Other experiences included assisting artists in the installation of work and branching out to teach visual arts classes within the community.
